    Re: The Little Nyonya II

Episode 34 The Fate Of The Villains

The corridor along the emergency unit was silent except for the constant cries from Xiufeng. Yueniang was still in deep thoughts of what had just happened in the Huang's house. Looking at how solemn Yueniang looked, Ah Tao and Paul could only hoped for the best news from the doctor. On the way to the hospital, Paul had already sensed that Yueniang was feeling extremely guilty about making the trip to the Huang's house to find Zhenzhu.

Finally, the doctor came out after an hour of waiting which seemed like eternity. Immediately, Xiufeng and Yueniang ran up to him.

'Doctor, how's my mother-in-law? Is she all right?' Xiufeng asked as she swept the tears off her face.

'Apparently, your mother-in-law had just suffered from a stroke again. At the moment, she is not in life danger but-'

    'But what?' Yueniang interrupted.

'She is still in coma right now and it all depends on her fighting will to regain consciousness.' The doctor continued.

Upon hearing the doctor's words, Xiufeng wailed louder.

'I'm sorry Yueniang.' Paul muttered after reaching home.

'It's not your fault. I just cannot imagine that Zhenzhu would turn out this way after all these years. I thought that she had changed.' Yueniang said.

For the next few days, Yueniang, who was free during the closure of Little Nyonya, had made a point to visit Guihua everyday at the hospital. However, there was still no sign of improvement after a week and Xiufeng would simply sit in a daze beside Guihua's bed. Zhenzhu, on the other hand remained missing.

    'Yueniang...' Xiufeng called weakly.

'Yes, Aunt Xiufeng? Go back and rest if you are tired. I will stay put here.' Yueniang replied on seeing Xiufeng's haggard appearance.

Just as Yueniang finished her sentence, Xiufeng knelt down out of a sudden in front of Yueniang without a word.

'Aunt Xiufeng! What are you doing? Please get up!' Yueniang cried at Xiufeng's action.

'Yueniang....Please forgive Zhenzhu....Please....It's all my fault... I'm responsible for her turnout....I deserved to die!' Xiufeng wailed as she started kowtowing to Yueniang.

'Aunt Xiufeng! Please stop! Don't do this....' Yueniang persuaded as she helped Xiufeng up. It was perhaps due to Xiufeng's lack of energy after not eating well for a week that she showed minimum resistance. However, Xiufeng could not stopped crying even after Yueniang had gotten her back into the chair.

Staring at the heartbroken Xiufeng and the unconscious Guihua beside her, Yueniang could not help but felt that fate had went too far on the Huang family.

Episode 35 Ah Tao's Painful Memories

'This Zhenzhu is atrocious! I cannot believe such a person exist!' Anqi exclaimed.

'Xiaoqi, she's after all your biological Mama's sister. Moreover like what Yueniang Xiaojie had said before, whatever happened belongs to the past generation. It's nothing but history now.' Aunt Tao said as she shook her head. For a fleeting instance, Anqi swore that she had seen a drop of tear dripping from Aunt Tao's face.

As Anqi continued to flip through the diary, she was surprised to discover that a couple of pages had been completely ripped from the diary just right after the page she had stopped.

'This....' Anqi asked in bewilderment as she pointed at the torn diary.

'Aunt Tao, what happened?' Anqi continued. Somewhere deep in her heart, Anqi sensed that something was out of place.

'Perhaps it's just some old history that is not worth looking at I guess...' Aunt Tao replied calmly.

'Aunt Tao...Please tell me the truth.' Anqi requested as she became more and more suspicious by the minute. She was affirmed that the missing pages contained important events that had led to the present she knew.

'Look at the time! You must be tired, Xiaoqi. My old bones are cracking sitting up all night, I need to rest...' With that, Aunt Tao got up and hunched slowly to her bedroom. Anqi wanted to question further but dropped the idea as she knew that Aunt Tao was a stubborn old lady and not even her late Mama could force Aunt Tao to do things against her will.

Just as Anqi decided to return to the room for some rest, she heard sobbing from Aunt Tao's bedroom.

Pushing the unlocked door, Anqi saw Aunt Tao weeping by the bed.

'Aunt Tao...Are you all right? Why are you crying again? What happened?' Anqi asked while she walked towards the bed, wrapping her arms across Ah Tao's back. Anqi noticed that while Aunt Tao was wiping the tears off her face with one hand, her other hand was clutching on to something tightly.

'Xiaoqi....This...' Aunt Tao cried as she opened her clutched palm.

It was a gold ring strung in a gold chain. Anqi immediately recognised that it was the same chain with a ring that Aunt Tao had always been wearing.

'..I will never forget what happened that year....' Aunt Tao continued.

Episode 36 The Reopening Of Little Nyonya

The year was nearing its end just as Little Nyonya’s suspension of license. Nearly two months had passed since the food poisoning incident that had led to the temporary closure of Little Nyonya and Guihua’s stroke that had left her in continuous coma. Other than accompanying Guihua in the hospital in the day, Xiufeng had spent every other minute staying in the Huang’s house awaiting for the return of Zhenzhu.

Yueniang, on the other hand was enjoying her rare break at home. Since the temporary closure of Little Nyonya, Yueniang was able to fulfill her duty as a mother and wife to the fullest extent. Besides cooking for the family every day, Yueniang had even volunteer to help Paul out at the law firm despite Paul’s objection. Paul had always wanted her to take care of her delicate condition at home but gave in ultimately knowing Yueniang’s stubbornness.

‘Paul, I won’t be going to the firm tomorrow.’ Yueniang informed while washing the dishes after dinner.

‘So, you’ve finally decided to stay home and rest?’ Paul joked.

‘You’ve forgot about it? Little Nyonya is reopening in a few days time and it’s time for spring cleaning at the restaurant.’ Yueniang explained as she frowned.

‘Ha, I knew it. But don’t tell me you are doing all that cleaning alone?’ Paul asked. Ah Tao had been in Singapore with Yidao discussing their wedding which was to be held after the New Year.

‘Don’t worry, Paul. I’ve gotten Aunt Xiufeng to help me out. I think it will be good to keep her busy from thinking too much.’ Yueniang said as she thought of how Xiufeng had been behaving erratically since Zhenzhu’s disappearance.

‘And Taojie will be returning tomorrow evening with my brother, I’ve already asked her to go straight to Little Nyonya as I will be preparing dinner tomorrow night at the restaurant. I was thinking that we could have a mini reunion dinner there.’ Yueniang said happily.

‘Sounds great! I will bring Zuye there after work. Remember NOT to overwork all right? Andy needs a rest too.’ Paul reminded as he pat Yueniang’s tummy.

‘Andy?’ Yueniang asked in a puzzled tone.

‘Yes, Andy. Our little boy!’  Paul replied smilingly as he placed his ear on Yueniang’s tummy.

‘See, he likes the name!’ Paul added to Yueniang’s amusement.

    Re: The Little Nyonya II

    Episode 37 Kindness For Evil

It was lunchtime and Little Nyonya was empty except for Yueniang and Xiufeng. They had just started their spring cleaning of the restaurant in preparation for its reopening a few days later.

'Yueniang, how did you do it?' Xiufeng asked as she was wiping one of the empty kitchen shelves in Little Nyonya.

'Do what?' Yueniang asked in a puzzled tone while looking at Xiufeng intently.

'After what we had done to you in the past and the troubles Zhenzhu had created, how did you manage to return evil with kindness?' Xiufeng asked like a child awaiting an answer for a naive question.

'It's my Nya Nya.' Yueniang answered simply.

'Juxiang?' Xiufeng said in a surprised tone.

'My Nya Nya is a good woman of her time. Despite losing her when I was only eight, I could tell that she is a kind-hearted person who would sacrifice every bit of herself for her loved ones and family. And the Huang family is her family. It's her roots.' Yueniang replied serenely.

'Evil begets evil and kindness would definately begets kindness someday. There is no end to revengeful thoughts. Don't you feel better now that you no longer held grudges towards me?' Yueniang continued. Upon hearing, Yueniang's words, Xiufeng appeared enlightened and started to weep softly.

'Juxiang had indeed taught you well. Unlike me, look at what happened to Tianbao and Zhenzhu...' Xiufeng said while wiping off her tears.

'Aunt Xiufeng, the past is over. You still have Yuzhu remember? When her condition improves further, I promise I will send her back to your side.' Yueniang said encouragingly.

'Zhenzhu!' Xiufeng suddenly screamed while pointing at the kitchen window.

'I saw her! She's there! Zhenzhu's outside!' Xiufeng continued screaming as she rushed to the door that leads to the alley behind the shophouse. Yueniang followed closely behind and for a moment, she was expecting to see Zhenzhu waiting at the alley.

However, as Xiufeng and Yueniang opened the door, the alley was quiet and empty except for a few stray cats. Xiufeng shouted for Zhenzhu's name only to hear her own echoes from the empty alley.

'Perhaps you've been missing her too much. Let's get back inside, Aunt Xiufeng.' Yueniang said before proceeding to help Xiufeng back into the restaurant's kitchen.

'Is it?' Xiufeng questioned. But as Xiufeng looked at the empty alley once again, she reluctantly returned back into the kitchen with Yueniang.

Just as the door closed upon them, a figure appeared from behind a pillar.

    Episode 38 The Inferno

It was Zhenzhu. Throwing aside a beer bottle in her hands, Zhenzhu let out an evil laugh.

The sun was already starting to set when Yueniang had finished preparing her first dish Babi Ponteh. It was Paul's favourite.

'Hmm, why haven't Paul and Zuye arrived? Yueniang, you were saying Ah Tao and your sworn brother Yidao will be joining us right?' Xiufeng asked as she carried the fragrant dish to the table.

'Zuye had just finished school and Paul should be fetching him straight here.' Yueniang replied after looking at the clock on the wall.

'And yes, Taojie and my brother will be here too after they got off the train from Singapore.' Yueniang added.

'Aunt Xiufeng, did you smell something?' Yueniang asked suddenly. Just as Yueniang was waiting for Xiufeng to reply, she was alarmed to see Xiufeng pointing to the door in shock.

'LOOK!' Xiufeng exclaimed with her fingers still pointed at the door. Turning to the direction of the door where Xiufeng was pointing at, Yueniang got a rude shock. There were black fumes leaking in from beneath the door and a huge fire appeared to be raging wildly outside.

'We must get out now!' Yueniang commanded as she pulled Xiufeng who was standing extremely still in shock towards the restaurant's entrance through the hall. Yueniang had wanted to try extinguishing the fire outside but decided against doing so when she felt that the heat was getting stronger by the second. However, just as Yueniang and Xiufeng entered the restaurant's hall when the entrance was, they were in for a huge shock.

The hall was already clouded in dark black fumes and the glass panels at the entrance had even started to crack under the high heat. The hall felt like an inferno filled with suffocating smoke from the raging fire. Having no other choice, Yueniang pulled Xiufeng back into the kitchen where the air was still relatively fresh.

'Help! Help! Some HELP!' Yueniang screamed desperately after realizing that they were trapped in the burning inferno. Xiufeng started to cough incessantly due to the increasing intensity of the fumes and suddenly fell to the floor after her legs gave way.

'Aunt Xiufeng! Are you all right? Hang on!' Yueniang exclaimed upon seeing Xiufeng collapsing. Yueniang's heart was racing as the fumes started invading the kitchen from the hall.

The air in the kitchen was soon contaminated by the fumes causing pain to Yueniang's eyes. Worse still, Yueniang started to feel difficulty in breathing.

'HELP! SOMEBODY HELP! WE'RE TRAPPED INSIDE!' Yueniang continued shouting with all her might as she held tightly to the fallen Xiufeng. Just then, Yueniang realised that Xiufeng had fainted.

    Re: The Little Nyonya II

    Episode 39 The Savior's End

'Aunt Xiufeng! Wake up! Please wake up!' Yueniang begged upon seeing Xiufeng motionless. The temperature around her was rising rapidly and the fumes was not only suffocating, it was also hurting Yueniang's eyes so much that she could barely open her eyes. Yueniang was not sure whether if the tears flowing down her eyes were due to the irritation by the thick fumes or was it due her fear of doom within the burning inferno. As Yueniang was fighting for her breath, she could only sat on the ground helplessly with Xiufeng lying in her arms.

Out of a sudden, Yueniang felt a forceful grab by her arms.

'Follow me!' A man's voice roared as Yueniang was dragged away. The force was so great and sudden that Yueniang had loosen grip of Xiufeng as she followed the force of the hand that was grabbing her arms as tight as a clamp. By now, her eyes had hurt so much and filled with tears to the extent that she could not see a thing. Yueniang could however felt the fire raging around her as she scrambled clumsily. In a split second, Yueniang felt the air around her cooled suddenly and everything was quiet. She was out of the burning restaurant.

'Yueniang! Are you all right? Can you see me?' A man's voice asked hurriedly. It was the same voice she had heard in the inferno earlier on. Struggling to open her eyes by force, a familiar figure appeared together with a woman in white.

'Yueniang Xiaojie! Are you all right? Don't scare me!' A female voice screamed shrilly. Yueniang immediately recognised the voice. It was Ah Tao.

Adjusting her vision, Yueniang saw Ah Tao holding her and her brother Yidao was standing beside herself. They looked extremely worried.

'Taojie....Brother.....Did you just save me?' Yueniang asked weakly before she started coughing non-stop. Just before she could get her reply, Yueniang suddenly remembered that Xiufeng was with her.

'Aunt Xiufeng....Did you see her?' Yueniang continued.

'The fire was very strong and there was smoke everywhere. I didn't see anyone else. I just pulled you out the moment I saw your back.' Yidao replied. Hearing the way he spoke, it seemed that Yidao was still catching for his breath.

'No...Aunt Xiufeng was with me.... She's inside! Please save her..She's still inside....' Yueniang said as fast as she could knowing that Xiufeng's life was in great danger.

Before she knew it, Yueniang saw Yidao dashed into the burning restaurant once again without a word.

'Yidao! No! Come BACK!' Ah Tao screamed.

Seeing the entire building engulfed in monstrous flames lighting up the dark alley like daylight, Yueniang immediately regretted her pleas to Yidao to save Xiufeng. There was no chance for Yidao to escape the burning inferno by now. Buring beams were falling from the roof and the sound of cracking crockeries accompanied the noise of the raging fire.

'No! Yidao! Come back! Come back!' Ah Tao continued shouting. Yueniang wanted to shout with her but realised that strength was drained from her, preventing her from doing so.

Just then, there was a loud explosion and the fire grew so much that Ah Tao had to drag Yueniang further away from the scene.

    'NNOOOO!' Ah Tao bellowed.

Yueniang could only stared at the raging fire in horror.
