    Episode 19 Persuasion

Seeing the sadness in Chen Xi's face, Yueniang felt her heart softened.

'Chen Xi, if you really want me to be happy, go to the hospital for treatment.' Yueniang said as she shunned Chen Xi's eyes.

'The doctors can't cure me. I know my illness.' Chen Xi said nonchalently.

To Chen Xi's shock, Yueniang suddenly knelt down in front of him.

'Chen Xi, I'm begging you now. Please receive treatment at the hospital. Do it for Libbya and the kids....and for me!' Yueniang cried as Chen Xi stood in disbelief for he had never seen Yueniang in such despair before. Just before Chen Xi could react, Libbya dashed into the room and came down on her knees as well beside Yueniang.

'Please, Chen Xi. Please... You must get well!' Libbya broke down like never before.

Upon seeing the duo he had loved so much crying and begging him on their knees, Chen Xi's heart finally gave way. He knew there was no escaping from Yueniang's persuasion. Afterall, Yueniang was a very determined girl as he knew.

'All right. You two get up first. I will receive treatment in hospital. Please get up....Don't do this...' Chen xi said while he pulled Yueniang up followed by Libbya.

Looking at Yueniang whose face was already soaked with tears, Chen Xi put his hands on Yueniang's shoulders.

'But on one condition, I will only go to the hospital after you leave London because...I know I will never be able to leave the hospital once I enter it. Please let me have the honour of showing you around while I still can. Promise me and I will do what you say.' Chen Xi said as he looked for an approving look in Yueniang's eyes.

'All right.' Yueniang muttered after seeing Libbya nodding her head in agreement.

    Episode 20 Finding The Pearl

The next day, Libbya was already waiting at the garden near the gate when Yueniang reached. Upon seeing Yueniang, Libbya revealed a weak smile. Yueniang realized that Libbya's eyes were swollen but had decided to remain mum. Finally the awkard silence broke.

'Thanks, Yueniang. If not for you, I guess Chen Xi would never agreed to going to the hospital.' Libbya said weakly.

'It's all right. By the way, where are your kids? I don't seem to see them yesterday.' Yueniang asked, trying to divert away to a happier talk.

'Oh. My parents are helping to take care of them at the moment. Anyway, let's go. Chen Xi has been waiting for you.' Libbya said as she signaled Yueniang to enter the house.

'I'm really sorry. I don't mean to... I promise I only treat Chen Xi as a very close friend like you.' Yueniang explained.

'I understand you meant well. Don't worry for me.' Libbya replied in an assuring tone.

Entering the house, Yueniang saw that Chen Xi was already sitting at the sofa reading the papers. Except for his face which looked a tad pale, it was hard to imagine that he was suffering from the terminal stage of stomach cancer.

'Chen Xi, you are sure of accompanying me to look for Zhenzhu today? It's all right if you are not feeling well, the PI had given me the address of the pub. I can just get a cab.' Yueniang said.

'Let me go with you. I am partly responsible for Zhenzhu too. Let me help.' Chen Xi requested. Seeing that Chen Xi was so determined, Yueniang gave in.

The ride to the downtown was a silent one. While Chen Xi was driving, Yueniang merely kept very quiet as she looked at the scenery along the way. Very soon, the car came to stop outside a row of low buildings which resembles the shophouses in Malacca. There were groups of people smoking and chatting along the alley way.

'This is it.' Chen Xi said while pointing at a particular signboard that reads 'Mel's Place'.

Following Chen Xi into the pub, Yueniang felt uneasy as there were incessant stares from the people around them. The interior of the pub was a contrast to the outside world. Instead of the bright morning sun, the pub was dim and smoky. Among the dream-like atmosphere, Chen Xi spotted a familiar back.

'Look.' Chen Xi said as he pointed at a woman dressed in sleazy red dress sitting by the bar drinking. The woman was holding a cigarette in one hand and a wine glass in another.

'It's her.' Yueniang agreed upon walking up towards the woman.

'Zhenzhu?' Yueniang called out. Responding to her call, the woman looked up in a daze. However, the daze soon turns into a look of shock and anger as Chen Xi stepped up. It was indeed Zhenzhu.

'It's really you! Zhenzhu, it's me, Yueniang.' Yueniang said as she held onto Zhenzhu's arms.

'I know who you are! You are the one that caused me to land in a place like this! And you still have the cheek to come here? And him!' Zhenzhu exclaimed as she stared angrily at Chen Xi.

'Please Zhenzhu. Whatever it is, you got to go back with me to Malacca. Aunt Xiufeng misses you a lot. You are the only one she has now.' Yueniang said.

'Don't make up stories in front of me. All right, I admit I had lost to you little ***. Go on and laugh at my present state. Now leave me alone!' Zhenzhu shouted before downing another glass of wine.

'Please. You mother needs you. That's why Yueniang had travelled so far here to find you.' Chen Xi helped to explain but to no avail. Zhenzhu simply ignored Chen Xi and carried on drinking.

'Zhenzhu, please let the past go. Go back with me to Malacca. Please.' Yueniang requested once more. However, Zhenzhu acted as if she was alone and continued to ignore Yueniang and Chen Xi.

Seeing that Zhenzhu was very stubborn and most probably drunk, Chen Xi advised Yueniang to give Zhenzhu some time alone to think about it.

As Chen Xi and Yueniang left the pub, Zhenzhu started to ponder about Yueniang's words. Before long, Zhenzhu came to a decision and let out an evil smile.

Episode 21 A Photo To Remember

'Chen Xi, thanks for looking after Yuzhu all these years. However, it's a pity her condition does not seem to improve. And her sister Zhenzhu, apparently still hold deep grudges against us. I suddenly felt that Aunt Xiufeng is so pitiful.' Yueniang commented as she walked along the busy street with Chen Xi.

'Don't worry. I'm sure Zhenzhu will come to her senses soon. It's partly my fault too. I should've looked for her when she disappeared years ago from the Chen family. I don't expect her to turn out like this.' Chen Xi said.

'I guess it's no use blaming anyone now.' Yueniang said she stopped at a particular shop along the street. There were tons of photos hung up in pretty frames at the window display. It was a photo studio.

'My father used to be a photographer.' Yueniang said as she admired at the well shot photos.

'Did I tell you I grew up in a studio full of photography equipments? My Nya Nya used to clean them everyday while waiting for my father to return from Japan before the war.' Yueniang continued.

Before she knew it, Chen Xi held Yueniang's hands and dragged her into the studio.

'What are you doing?' Yueniang asked in shock.

'Come. Let's take a picture together since we are here.' Chen Xi explained like a kid.

Finding no excuses to reject, Yueniang agreed.

In the studio itself, Yueniang was mesmerized by the beautiful backdrop and the photography equipments. The equipment was very different from what her father used to own and they looked very expensive. It must had been half a day later when their picture was finally meticulously taken.

'Sorry about just now.' Chen Xi apologised out of a sudden.

    'About what?' Yueniang asked.

'About holding your hands during the shoot. I'm glad that you did not pushed my hands away. Yueniang, thank you for allowing me to keep a piece of memory of you.' Chen Xi replied while driving Yueniang back to her hotel.

'Er...Thanks for accompanying me for the entire day too. You must be tired. Do have a good rest.' Yueniang said as she looked out of the window.

'Thanks for sending me back. I can go up by myself. Thanks again.' Yueniang thanked Chen Xi as she got off his car. Without waiting for Chen Xi to reply, Yueniang hurried into the lobby in fear that Chen Xi would insist seeing her to the door. No doubt that Yueniang had enjoyed the day out together with Chen Xi, she felt guilty towards Libbya and Paul deep inside her heart. Yueniang felt she had to control herself for the best of everyone.

Upon stepping into the lobby, Yueniang was surprised when a figure waved at her at the counter.

    It was Zhenzhu.

    Re: The Little Nyonya II

You're great! 2 episodes in 1 hour! Your stories are very well woven and also extremely well developed. 'Promoting' Libby from a minor character to a main character is also a good move. I am totally amazed at the speed and quality of your work. Ever thought of selling Mediacorp your work, or working for Mediacorp?  Smile

PS: Can you please make your episodes a bit longer? If they were adapted to screen one episode would last only 5-9 minutes. Sorry if this offended you... its just my HUMBLE suggestion.

Thanks for your support. I would definately hope to work for MDC but I guess that can only remain as a dream. I love writing!

As for my short episodes, I wanted to make them short and sweet thus they are easy to digest without burning too much time on the PC. If it were to be brought onto the screen, the scenes would be elaborated to enhance the length of the show.

    Stay tune for more twist!

    Episode 22 The Other Sister

Yueniang could not believe her eyes when she saw Zhenzhu standing beside the counter waving at her. Immediately, she walked up towards Zhenzhu excitingly.

'Zhenzhu!' Yueniang called out as she approached Zhenzhu.

'You said my mother was very worried about me?' Zhenzhu asked calmly.

'Yes. Aunt Xiufeng needs you. Please come back to Malacca with me.' Yueniang requested again.

'Look, I'm penniless. There is no way I can afford the air ticket.' Zhenzhu claimed.

'Not to worry about the air ticket. If you promise to go back with me, I will settle everything.' Yueniang assured. Seeing Zhenzhu appearing to be considering the offer, Yueniang assured Zhenzhu once more that she would not need to worry a bit about the money at all.

Within a minute, Zhenzhu gave a nod and muttered a soft thank.

'That's great. Aunt Xiufeng will be so thrilled to see you. I will be leaving within these two days, will you be ready in time?' Yueniang said as she held Zhenzhu's hands in excitment.

Without saying a word, Zhenzhu nodded again.

'By the way, Yuzhu is actually staying in a mental care unit here in London. I will be visiting her before I leave. I think she will want to see you?' Yueniang said.

'What? Well....Fine... Let me know when you are going to visit her.' Zhenzhu said without asking about Yuzhu's condition further. Deep inside Yueniang's heart, she felt sad as Zhenzhu did not seemed to care much about her sister but Yueniang decided not to probe further in fear of risking Zhenzhu's temper.

'You are sure Zhenzhu wants to go back with you?' Chen Xi asked as he drove Yueniang to visit Yuzhu.

'I am sure. I've already gotten her ticket as well and she knows that I will be leaving tomorrow. In fact, I had just given her a call to meet at the mental care unit to visit Yuzhu together.' Yueniang replied firmly.

'Leaving tomorrow? So soon?' Chen Xi said as soon as Yueniang finished her sentence. Chen Xi had seemed to have gotten a shock as the car jerk a little.

'Yes. I've already accomplished what I need to do here and it's time for me to go back. Paul and Zuye need me.' Yueniang said.

'Just like how Libbya and the kids need you. So you are going to the hospital the first thing tomorrow morning.' Yueniang continued before Chen Xi could say another word.

'Let me see you off at the airport at least?' Chen Xi asked. Yueniang simply smiled and kept quiet.

Zhenzhu was already waiting impatiently at the unit when Yueniang and Chen Xi arrived.

'What took you so long? Make it quick, I need to pack my stuff. Didn't you said we have to leave tomorrow?' Zhenzhu complained.

Yuzhu was sitting up in her bed when Yueniang and Zhenzhu entered the ward. Although awake, Yuzhu seemed to be staring into space blankly without any facial expressions.

'Yuzhu? I'm Yueniang. I've come to visit you again. Look who I've brought?' Yueniang called out while she pat lightly on Yuzhu's shoulder.

Turning to Yueniang, Yuzhu gave the same expressionless look, staring straight through Yueniang.

'Yuzhu, look. Zhenzhu is here. Your elder sister is here to visit you.' Yueniang repeated.

'....Sis....ter.......' Yuzhu mumbled as she let out a little chuckle.

'Yes. Your sister is here.' Yueniang repeated once again. However, Yuzhu only gave Zhenzhu a quick look before turning to Yueniang and smiled.

'...Sister....Sis...ter...Yue..niang.....' Yuzhu mumbled. Yueniang merely held Yuzhu's hands tight as Yuzhu called out her name.Tears started rolling down Yueniang's cheeks as she hugged Yuzhu.

'My dearest sister,....' Yueniang cried as she hugged Yuzhu tighter hoping that the time can be reversed where Yuzhu was still her old self.

Throughout the visit, Zhenzhu never spoke a word except for showing displeasure in the long time spent in the ward. Yueniang could feel Zhenzhu's temper rising by the minute.

'Thanks for visiting Yuzhu.' Yueniang thanked as she walked out of the ward.

'What a waste of time. She can't even recognise me. Fancy calling you the sister. I think she is not only mentally ill, she must be blind as well.' Zhenzhu commented before leaving hurriedly in a fit.

    Episode 23 The Parting Letter

Just as Chen Xi was making his way out of the house to see Yueniang off at the hospital, he was surprised to see Libbya already at the door.

'Libbya, who's there?' Chen Xi asked.

'It's....Yueniang. She had just left and wanted me to pass you this.' With that, Libbya handed over an envelope to Chen Xi.

Immediately, Chen Xi made a dash to the door but was stopped by Libbya. In fact, Chen Xi was shock at Libbya's action as she had always been giving in to him. This time, Libbya seemed different.

'Yueniang said there is no need to see her off. She wants you to go to the hospital now. Please!' Libbya said as she continued to block the door with her body.

'Please, I need to see Yueniang for the last time. Let me go.' Chen Xi said while grabbing the envelope.

'No..I'm sorry I had to do this. But please...fulfill your promise and go to the hospital now. I'm begging you now as your WIFE. Please!' Libbya pleaded. On seeing the hot tears rolling down Libbya's cheeks, Chen Xi knew it was futile to insist and knelt down weeping softly.

'Sorry Chen Xi. I only want you to take care of your health first. Please don't blame me for being selfish....' Libbya said as she wrapped her arms around Chen Xi.

Opening the envelope, Chen Xi's tears flowed incessantly as he read the letter.

    Dear Chen Xi

As you are reading this letter, I am already on my way to the airport. Please do not blame Libbya for stopping you from sending me off as I had pleaded with her to stop you with all her might. Please blame me instead. Please blame me for not able to overcome my guilt towards Yuzhu eight years ago. The same guilt I had that refrained me from being with you had re-emerged this very moment, only that the guilt is towards Libbya and Paul. I do not deny that I am very happy to see you again but deep inside my heart, I had to remind myself constantly that we can never be like the past anymore. It was a hard time for me trying to control my feelings and before I do anything wrong, I had decided never to see you again after my trip to London. Please go to the hospital immediately to receive proper treatment and do not try to contact me again. Spend your time wisely and happily with Libbya as I can tell that she loved you a lot. Promise me not to let her down and fight hard to get well.

    Yueniang
